Basic Obedience Classes

Basic Obedience classes are designed for adolescent and adult dogs with little to no previous training. Yes, you can teach old dogs new tricks! 6 months, 6 years, 16 years...age does not matter; this class is open to all. While it is always better, and easier, to start young it is never too late to start training. We will cover the foundational work taught in puppy class, minus playtime, but expectations will be higher and the skills learned will be more extensive. These classes are held indoors in a clean, veterinary environment as well as outdoors to provide a good balance of real world distractions and structured training. The focus is largely on Positive Reinforcement techniques but you will also learn about corrections and their proper, responsible, non-harmful use. You will have the opportunity discuss, observe and apply a variety of techniques and strategies and find the right ones for you and your dog.

Your dog will learn:

• Basic obedience (Heel, Sit, Down, Come, Stay, etc.)
• Learning theory
• Proper greetings and socialization
• Leadership skills
• Handling skills
• Responsible use of corrections
• How to build drive and motivation
• How to balance multiple training techniques
• Behavior solutions (biting, barking, jumping, etc.)
• Intro to agility obstacles
• Tricks (shake, roll-over, etc.)
• Games (fetch, tug, etc.)

Price: $115.00 for 7 week class. Week one is registration and Free Seminar (no dogs) followed by 6 weeks of hands-on instruction with your dog.
