Philosophy
Thriving Canine goes far beyond just dog training
It is a philosophy as opposed to a method! I believe that in order to train your dog successfully, you must first understand your dog. That's where I come in. I am a mediator between dogs and their humans and my job is to see both sides of the human/dog relationship and devise a program where both can thrive.
- METHODS: There are a variety of methods being used in the world of dog training today. I am experienced in many, but not stuck to any particular school of thought. I am most interested in results. Various methods have their time and place, but the key is understanding each dog and adapting to their individual temperament. To me, successful dog training is more than just getting a dog to obey a command, it's doing it without bribing the dog or crushing his spirit.
- SKILLS: It's not just about the skills (sit, down, stay, come, heel, etc.), but in the application of them. We are not training the dog simply for the sake of imposing our will on them, but for the purpose of integrating them into our lives. I'll help you to take the skills you learn beyond the classroom and apply them to every day situations.
- FULFILLMENT: The human is not the only one that needs to be fulfilled in this relationship. I care as much about fulfilling the dog's needs as I do about training the dog. Dog's needs are basic but none the less critical to their wellbeing. Exercise, exploration, diet and interaction with humans and other dogs are examples of some of your dog's basic needs.
I am not only interested in helping you to train your dog, I'm equally interested in helping you to develop a relationship with your dog so that having a dog is a pleasure, not a chore.
My goal is that anywhere and everywhere that dogs are allowed, your dogs will always be welcome. I want you to experience a better life with your dog!
